Atelier
Six steps from bottle to candle.
We collect empty wine bottles from wineries and restaurants across Austria and make candles, vases and pictures from them. Each one is cut and ground by hand in Kitzeck.
We started at our own kitchen table. Today we work in a small atelier in Kitzeck im Sausal.
How a wine bottle becomes a candle
- 1CuttingEach bottle is cut cleanly to the right height.
- 2GrindingWe grind the cut edge in several passes, from coarse to fine, until it rests smoothly in the hand.
- 3CleaningWe wash every glass thoroughly, inside and out.
- 4Setting the wickThe wick is set into the lower part of the bottle.
- 5FillingWith remelted wax, topped up with fresh wax so that the scent and burning time are right.
- 6CuringThe wax needs time to set. Then the candle is finished. No two bottles are the same, so there is only one of each candle.
And when it has burnt down?
Then we refill the same glass with the Connaisseur Refill. Bottles of your own become a Connaisseur B-Y-O.
